New Jetstar routes announced for Cairns and Sunshine Coast

25 Jun 2024

Thanks to the Attracting Aviation Investment Fund (AAIF) Queensland will now benefit from two new Trans-Tasman routes.

Jetstar has launched two new Trans-Tasman routes from New Zealand, with support from the $200 million Attracting Aviation Investment Fund.

Three weekly services between Auckland and Sunshine Coast Airport will start in December 2024 – the first year-round service between the two cities.

While three weekly services between Christchurch and Cairns will start in April 2025 – the first ever direct service between those two cities.

Both services are three-year commitments secured through the Attracting Aviation Investment Fund.

The flights to the Sunshine Coast will help alleviate the pain of losing Bonza Airlines from the local market, providing a crucial direct link for New Zealand tourists and students.

To support the Cairns flights, Jetstar will base an additional aircraft in Christchurch from December, bringing the airline’s New Zealand fleet to eight Airbus A320 aircraft.

The low-cost operator is expected to offer thousands more low fares every year, providing a vital boost to regional Queensland tourism operators, hotels and restaurants.
