New Indonesia AirAsia route opens doors between Denpasar and Cairns

07 Jun 2024

The Queensland Government’s $200 million Attracting Aviation Investment Fund (AAIF) partnership with Queensland’s four international airports has secured another crucial, direct inbound service between Denpasar, Bali and Cairns.

Indonesia AirAsia unveils a new route linking Denpasar and Cairns, offering travellers an exciting gateway between South East Asia and Far North Queensland (FNQ). From 14 August, passengers can fly direct between the two locations, generating approximately 100 direct and indirect job opportunities.

This comes from a strategic partnership from the Queensland Government's $200 million investment into the Attracting Aviation Investment Fund (AAIF). The partnership promises to deliver a wealth of benefits, including the availability of 28,000 seats inbound to Cairns.

This new route is anticipated to ignite substantial economic activity, with an estimated $31.11 million in overnight visitor expenditure anticipated. This injection of capital is primed to breathe new life into the tourism sector and foster economic growth in Queensland.

With the latest announcement, AAIF has secured 31 new or returned aviation routes into Queensland’s international airports since February 2022.
