Ipswich Hockey’s world-class upgrades

11 Jul 2024

The Ipswich Hockey Association is making a major play with their latest installation—a state-of-the-art synthetic hockey field.

The Poligras Paris GT ensures the club can host future international-level events and give players a top-tier surface to show off their stick skills.

The project received $250,000 through the Minor Infrastructure Program, with the Ipswich Hockey Association covering the rest to achieve this incredible transformation.

The previous field, dating back to 2009, was well overdue for replacement and identified as a top priority in the association's strategic plan. They've also upgraded the lighting and installed solar panels, making the facility a shining example of sustainability.

The new surface marks Australia's first use of the eco-friendly Poligras Paris GT hockey system, designed specifically for the 2024 Paris Olympics. Made from 80% bio-based materials derived from sugar cane, it offers UV stability, durability, and exceptional water conservation. Talk about playing it cool! Turf Glide technology minimises surface friction, ensuring players can glide and slide with ease.

In a fitting tribute, the new field is named after John Cushing OAM, a local hockey legend who passed away in 2023. A life member of Hockey Queensland since 1995 and the Ipswich Hockey Association since 1972, John’s dedication to the sport was unparalleled. With 35 years as president and 18 as secretary, John was truly the backbone of the club—a real MVP who left an indelible mark on the community.

With the new Poligras Paris GT field, Ipswich Hockey Association is ready to face off against the best, offering players and fans a premier venue that’s set to make waves in the world of hockey. Get ready to hit the field and witness some stick-tacular action!
