Bundy Belle River Cruises launches a fully accessible vessel

26 Sep 2024

Bundy Belle River Cruises, a cherished local tourism operator, has unveiled its brand-new, fully accessible river cruise vessel, the Bundy Belle 2, following the completion of its Access Project Grant funded project.

The $171,379 grant, awarded in June 2024, has allowed the small business to greatly enhance inclusivity, offering a river cruise experience that caters to wheelchair users and individuals with disabilities.

Operating from Riverside Parklands—a fully accessible, master-planned recreation precinct in Bundaberg—the Bundy Belle 2 is the only fully accessible cruise option within a 240-kilometre radius.

With space for multiple wheelchairs and accommodations for carers, the vessel ensures that visitors with a range of needs can enjoy the scenic Burnett River.

In line with the business's innovative and community-focused spirit, the inaugural cruise was a lively, pirate-themed disability karaoke event, highlighting the new vessel's unique experiences.

The owner of Bundy Belle River Cruises, thrilled with the project’s success, noted that the accessibility improvements are already attracting new clientele and building partnerships with NDIS providers.

“Thanks to this grant, we can provide a safe, relaxing environment where everyone can enjoy our river cruises,” they said. “Our first disability karaoke cruise was a resounding success, and we look forward to welcoming more visitors on board.”

The project was completed on schedule, with all milestones met, along with a few additional enhancements. "A special thanks to the Department of Tourism and Sport team for making the process smooth and highly professional."

The Bundy Belle 2 is expected to boost regional tourism and will be promoted through radio, social media, and other platforms to reach a broad audience.
