Western Districts Netball Association's Resilience and Recovery

31 Oct 2023

In 2022, the Western Districts Netball Association (WDNA) experienced severe flooding that inflicted considerable damage on their facilities. They received a grant of $373,500 from the Community Recovery and Resilience Assistance Program (CRARRP), which played a crucial role in their recovery.

Situated in the Western Districts, WDNA faced extensive damage as floodwaters, reaching up to 3 metres, submerged their netball courts, administrative building, canteen, equipment, and maintenance sheds. Fixtures and equipment on the ground floor were either lost or damaged. Despite the daunting challenge, the WDNA community's resilience and determination, along with the CRARRP funding, enabled them to initiate the rebuilding process.

The organisation took on the significant task of resurfacing ten playing courts and replacing the court lights for 20 hard courts, ensuring a brighter future for the netball community. They also relocated electrical distribution boards and the public address system to the second floor, taking proactive measures to guard against future flooding events for increased resilience.

The Western Districts Netball Association's journey of recovery and resilience demonstrates the strength and determination of its members. It exemplifies the enduring spirit of sport and community, highlighting our ability to come together and overcome significant challenges.
