Empowering Indigenous Australians at the Murri Carnival

11 Oct 2023

The annual Queensland Murri Carnival is more than just a rugby league carnival; it's a celebration of Indigenous excellence, health, and education.

In its 11th year, the event is a testament to the power of sports to bring communities together and promote positive change.

Supported by key strategic partners including the Arthur Beetson Foundation, Deadly Choices and Health and Wellbeing Queensland, alongside the Queensland Government, the carnival encourages Indigenous players of all ages to get active while focusing on health and education. Before stepping onto the rugby league field, all junior players are required to maintain a minimum 90% school attendance rate and complete health check-ups. This commitment to education and wellbeing highlights the organisers' dedication to holistic development. It's not just about excelling in sports; it's about nurturing the mind and body while celebrating Indigenous culture and strengthening the community.

The Queensland Murri Carnival and its strategic partners have a broader mission—to empower Indigenous Australians for better outcomes in health, education, sport, employment, and business development. It's about creating opportunities and pathways for success, both on and off the field. Through sports, the carnival helps build confidence, resilience, and a sense of belonging within Indigenous communities.

The Queensland Murri Carnival aligns with the Queensland Government's commitment to promoting active lifestyles and inclusivity. It's part of the 10-year Activate! Queensland strategy, which aims to get more Queenslanders active more often.
